Did you know that if you make backdoors into your tech for powerful people to eavesdrop on people who aren't you, powerful people whom you didn't anticipate might use these to eavesdrop on people who you might prefer to not be eavesdropped?
According to the newly released audit, an unnamed hacker was recruited by the cartel in 2018. The hacker "observed people going in and out of the United States Embassy in Mexico City and identified 'people of interest' for the cartel, including an FBI assistant legal attaché," the report said.
The hacker was able to use the attaché's phone number to determine incoming and outgoing calls as well as the FBI official's geolocation data, according to the audit.
The report said the hacker also used Mexico City's surveillance camera system to follow the FBI attaché throughout the city and identify people they met with. "The cartel used that information to intimidate and, in some instances, kill potential sources or cooperating witnesses," the audit said.
The report noted that modern technology has made it difficult to protect sensitive operations and sources.
"Advances in data mining and analysis, facial recognition, and computer network exploitation have made it easier than ever for nation state adversaries, terrorist organizations and criminal networks to identify FBI personnel and operations," the audit said.
The report urged the FBI to conduct an enterprise-wide threat assessment to determine where the agency is most vulnerable.
This might, perhaps, even deserve a five-year sequel arc to Breaking Bad.

TIL `Command-Option-H` on macOS. It minimizes all windows except the one you're working in, which is great for focus. Command-tabbing brings back any other window you need to go back to.
This is great for my workflows, especially when writing. When I want to focus on one window, I usually want to then see one or two other windows as I get into the writing. This approach of "focus on one window, and then bring back others as needed" is fantastic.

Finally! I solved an issue I've been having with Ripgrep (rg) showing me annoying output.
The short version is that Ripgrep would often show me output like [... 0 more matches] or [... 2 more matches] at the end of each line of output instead of the matching text. This is super annoying!
The answer is that it’s caused by the —max-column and —max-column-preview options being enabled.
I feel much better now that I’ve solved this. I hope this helps you.
TIL that Distrelec no longer ships from the Netherlands (but from UK/DE due to its merger with the RS group).
That means there is no longer a electronic parts store with a (reasonably) big catalog that ships locally (unless I missed one?).

Today I learned that the Ionian Sea and the Ionian Islands in it are most likely unrelated to the ancient Ionians and their land of Ionia. In English we spell and pronounce the name "Ionian" the same way, because we transliterate omicron (ο) and omega (ω) with the same letter!

- Man kann Angehörige von #Minderheiten wieder öffentlich verächtlich machen ("Zirkuszelt") - Man kann die schwächsten in der Gesellschaft (#Geflüchtete, #Bürgergeldempfänger*innen) pauschal diffamieren und für alle Probleme verantwortlich machen - Man kann wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse (menschengemachter #Klimawandel) einfach leugnen - Man kann wieder #Listen anlegen wie früher (psychisch Kranke), falls man die mal braucht - Man kann sich bewusst über (deutsches wie internationales) #Recht hinwegsetzen (#Grenzkontrollen, #Zurückweisungen, #Netanyahu) - Man kann die Tötung von Menschen als "#Drecksarbeit" bezeichnen und sich im selben Satz dafür bedanken - Man kann aber auch die zuvor als unverantwortlich gescholtenen Politikansätze der heutigen Opposition übernehmen, wo es einem selbst Spielräume eröffnet (#Schuldenbremse, Wehr-Etat 5%).
Die Liste ließe sich fast beliebig verlängern. Aber wir sind auch so schon um Jahrzehnte zurückgeworfen, in denen mühsam gesellschaftlicher #Fortschritt erarbeitet wurde.
Und ich wünsche mich (und uns) tatsächlich zurück - in die Zukunft.

SPD Politiker und Ex-Staatssekretär Christian Lange tritt aus der Kirche aus — aus Protest gegen das Kirchenasyl. Die kirchliche Praxis (durch der in diesem Beispiel drei Menschen aus Somalia Asyl gewährt wurde) sei eine Missachtung rechtsstaatlicher Entscheidungen.
Ein Mensch mit Herz wäre aus der SPD ausgetreten, aus Protest gegen deren Versuch das Kirchenasyl abzuschaffen und den Familiennachzug auszusetzen. Alle Verbrechen der Menschheit waren rechtsstaatlich, das ist nicht die Norm nach der man sich richten sollte.
Über NINA gab es gerade eine Warnung, dass in Schwabing eine Kampfmittelräumung einer Weltkriegsbombe stattfinden muss. Im Sperrgebiet liegt ausgerechnet die Bummstraße. Das finde wieder nur ich lustig.
Wegen der #Hitze musste nun auch in der Schweiz ein Block von einem #Kernkraftwerk heruntergefahren werden, damit das Kühlwasser den Fluss nicht überhitzt. Frankreich und Schweiz: Mehrere Atomkraftwerke wegen der Hitze runtergefahren
Atomkraftwerke brauchen große Mengen Kühlwasser. Doch wegen der Hitze sind die Flüsse zu warm. Nach Frankreich reagiert nun auch die Schweiz und fuhr einen Reaktor herunter. Und es drohen weitere Abschaltungen.
Das war das erste und letzte Mal, dass ich das mitgemacht habe. Man hat mir zum Ende gesagt, dass ich ab 42 Grad keine Fahrgäste mehr transportieren darf.

Vamos con otro #miercolesderelojesdepulsera pero ya os aviso que estoy rascando el fondo del barril que tampoco tengo tantos 😅 Hoy toca un Casio LF-20W, lo que yo creo que es un intento de crear un clásico moderno que sustituya al insustituible F91W. Es un reloj que no me termina de entusiasmar, intenta hacer demasiado en poco espacio. La hora queda pequeña para mi gusto y el reloj analógico no aporta demasiado. El diseño me gusta pero unos pocos milímetros más no le sobraban.
